SQL, NoSQL, Spark... How to Choose Your Tech-Stack

What are the key obstacles to building a successful data team? In this session, you will learn about the technology disconnect, data disconnect and people disconnect.

Imagine this: your CEO rushes into your office and tasks you to establish a new data team and expects your new team to deliver several data products. In your newly-appointed data team manager role, you can expect to face many challenges including:

  • Technologies are disconnected. Machine Learning, Stats, Viz, SQL, NoSQL, Real-Time, Batch, ETL, etc. Building a big data stack requires choosing up to 7 technologies in up to 7 fields, and the number of possibilities goes far beyond 49 :)
  • People are disconnected. How will you transition BI practice to big data, and does it even make sense? Should you hire analysts? Data scientists? Both? How will they work together?
  • Data can be deceiving and it is sometimes hard to procure the correct data. Learn how your team can adopt inspiring guerrilla warfare techniques.
  • Connecting your data - is it about visualization or automation? Can machine learning help solve your problem?

The goal of this presentation is to provide perspective and tactics for the Data-Team Manager.
